Grow to Learn, Learn to Grow... Watch a School Blossom!
Laburnum Elementary School, located in the Fairfield District of Henrico County, is a Title 1 PK-5 Elementary School. We are nestled in between Azalea Avenue and Laburnum Avenue close to Richmond International Raceway and not too far from Pine Camp. Currently we serve 570 students. With more than 7 fun school clubs for students, from Step Team to Art Club, we try to engage students in productive way. Laburnum Elementary has about 60 amazing staff members and teachers who make Laburnum a positive, fun, and safe place for children to come to and learn at each day.
This year we are excited to get underway on a new opportunity for students to dive even deeper into their education. Together teachers are working to build Laburnum its very own Learning Garden. With wonderful outdoor spaces available to us we are working to create an Active Learning Garden and a Memorial Reading Garden that helps us to remember our dear friend and 5th grade teacher Miss Sobomehin. We hope to create a quiet place outdoors for children to go where they can enjoy reading and recognize outstanding teachers we have had at our school. In a separate space nearby the Active Learning Garden will be packed with rich S.O.L. based learning opportunities where students can tend vegetables in raised beds, view butterflies in their habitat, and help turn cafeteria and lawn waste into soil for the plants.
To the many great clubs and organizations we already host for students, we would like to add a Garden Club starting during the 2013-2014 school year that focuses on growing our students nutritional education, gardening skills, and community spirit.
